The article titled "WNBA Calls for Pannell Award Nominees" in the August 17 issue of Bookselling This Week was incorrect. The Women's National Book Association will not call for Pannell Award nominees until October, and the contact will be Mary Grey James, chair of the Pannell Award Committee.

The 2006 Quill Book Award finalists were announced on Tuesday, August 22, by NBC weatherman Al Roker. Voting to choose the winners, which will be announced during a ceremony on October 10 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, is open to consumers through September 30.

Only five days remain for booksellers and librarians on the Quills Nominating Board to cast their votes for the 2006 Quill Book Awards. The voting period ends at 11:59 EST on August 15.

The Quills Nominating Board is selecting five titles in 19 categories that will be presented to consumers for voting, beginning Tuesday, August 22.

The sixth annual National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The festival is free and open to the public.

SIBA Announces Award Winners

On Tuesday, June 20, the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) announced the winners of the 2006 SIBA Book Awards, celebrating the best of Southern literature, as picked by independent booksellers throughout the South. The 2006 Winners are:

New Bill Moyers Series to Feature Authors on Faith & Reason

This year's winners of the Lucile Micheels Pannell Award for Excellence in Children's Bookselling, announced by the Women's National Book Association (WNBA) on May 8, are Northshire Bookstore in Manchester Center, Vermont, in the general bookstore category and A Likely Story Children's Bookstore in Alexandria, Virginia, in the children's specialty category.

BEA to Offer Podcast of Author Events

BookExpo America (BEA) has announced that it will make critical portions of its special event and educational speeches and panels available in a podcast format. The BEA Podcast will consist of approximately 20 episodes, each lasting about 30 minutes, and will be distributed over a period of two months after BEA itself is over.

Senators Call for a Hearing on the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Project

In a letter dated March 21, Sen. Michael Enzi (R-WY) and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) called on the Senate Committee on Finance to hold a hearing on S. 2152 and S. 2153, their respective streamlined sales and use tax legislation, that was referred to the committee for review. The letter was sent to Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-IA), the Senate Committee on Finance chairman, and Max Baucus (D-MT), the committee's ranking minority member.
