On Tuesday, BookExpo America unveiled the titles to be featured at this year’s Adult Editors Buzz, Young Adult Editors Buzz, and Middle Grade Editors Buzz. The books’ authors will also make an appearance on BEA’s Author Stage.

This week, Chelsea Handler, Diana Gabaldon, Wally Lamb, and Octavia Spencer were added to the list of breakfast speakers for BookExpo America 2013.

BEA Show Director Steve Rosato has unveiled plans for an alternative option to expensive New York hotel rates for trade show attendees. Rosato expects to open reservations next week for a block of 120 dorm rooms at Barnard College at the rate of $115 per night.

This year’s BookExpo America hotel exclusively for ABA member booksellers — the Grand Hyatt New York — offers single and double rooms at the special nightly rate of $255, plus tax (currently 14.75 percent) and a $3.50 per night occupancy fee. The rate is available on accommodations from Monday, May 27, through Sunday, June 2.

On Monday, BookExpo America announced that its 2013 conference and trade show at New York’s Javits Convention Center will take place one week earlier than previously announced.

How booksellers can meet the diverse needs of middle grade readers of a wide range of ages and abilities was the subject of a panel discussion at the first-ever Children’s Institute, presented by the ABC Children’s Group at ABA, at BookExpo America.

A panel of booksellers and literacy group leaders at ABA’s Children’s Institute examined how booksellers can begin assessing the literacy needs of children in their communities, as well as efforts already underway to meet those needs, to arrive at a plan that helps ensure books and reading programs reach the children who need them most.

Booksellers Arlene Lynes and Calvin Crosby joined noted entrepreneur, author, and speaker Christopher Zane of Zane’s Cycles at ABA’s Day of Education for a discussion about the ways booksellers can take salesmanship to the next level.
