Registration for the ABC Children’s Institute at BEA is booked to capacity. ABA member booksellers can add their names to a waiting list via the Institute website.

Renowned children’s book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak died on Tuesday, May 8, in Danbury, Connecticut, from complications of a stroke. He was 83.

After more than 25 years at New York’s Bank Street Bookstore, Beth Puffer retired as the store’s director at the end of April. 

The June 6 Children’s Art Auction at BEA will provide added excitement this year when live bidding opens on several rare items.  An online preview of more than 70 mostly silent auction items is now live.

A fun, new design for a bookmark and poster has just been added to ABA’s Bookseller DIY.  “Fire Up Your Imagination,” featuring a colorful, friendly dragon, comes to the U.S. courtesy of the Booksellers Association of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

ABA has extended registration for the Children’s Institute at BookExpo America until May 11. An additional but limited number of spaces at the June 6 day-long event are now open exclusively to booksellers at ABA member stores; they are expected to sell out quickly.

Meeting community literacy needs will be the subject of an ABC Children’s Institute panel discussion at BookExpo America.

An Indies Choice Book Awards sticker has been added to the Bookseller DIY to help stores promote this year’s winners and honor books.

After months spent reading more than 80 titles by debut authors, booksellers on the New Voices Committee have selected their top  spring picks for children ages 8 - 12 and for teens, from titles published between January 1 and June 30, 2012.
