Michigan Independent Business Alliance Quickly Makes a Name for Itself

When Bridget Rothenberger opened Nomad Bookhouse in historic downtown Jackson, Michigan, in December 2005, the bookstore was the only retail outlet on the street. But things are changing, Rothenberger said. The downtown area is starting to grow, and the once manufacturing town is taking a decidedly artistic turn.

I Know You Like a Book + IndieBound = Great PR

After Mary Beth Nebel of I Know You Like A Book in Peoria Heights, Illinois, read a column in the Peoria Journal Star that called for support of local independent restaurants, she wrote a letter to the editor to say that the column should have stressed support for all locally owned businesses. She got what she asked for. The next week, using IndieBound information supplied by Nebel, the business editor cataloged the many benefits of shopping local.

Sacred Path Books & Art, an approximately 10-year-old bookstore located in Trinity Commons in Cleveland, is one of three storefronts connected to the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. Nominations Needed for Banned Books Top Ten

There is still time to nominate titles for the 2008 Banned Books Top Ten.

The Banned Books list is timed so that booksellers can use these titles and the list in conjunction with Banned Books Week displays and related events. (Banned Books Week is scheduled this year for September 27 to October 4.) The list features titles (both for adults and for children) that have been banned or challenged in bookstores and/or libraries.
