July retail sales at bookstores slipped for the fourth month in a row. July 2010 sales were off by 2.35 percent, compared with July 2009, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census.

Retail Bookstore Sales Dip in February

 February retail sales at bookstores were down by 0.7 percent, compared with February 2009, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census. February 2010 bookstore sales are estimated at $1,003 million, compared with sales of $1,010 million for the same period last year.

Final January sales were $2,275 million, down 0.09 percent from last month's preliminary estimates and 1.9 percent higher than January 2009.

Bookstore Sales Fall in December

December retail sales at bookstores were down for the third straight month. Bookstore sales decreased by 0.6 percent in December 2009, compared to December 2008, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census. December 2009 bookstore sales are estimated at $2,027 million, compared to sales of $2,039 million for the same period last year.

Retail sales at bookstores were down 0.8 percent for the year.
