Indie Communications--News, Features, and Updates

September 9, 2015

Training Days
With cooler weather comes a variety of new learning options for IndieCommerce stores, on the web, via video and with webinars.

Web Documentation - The IndieCommerce Help Center is updated regularly with new help topics for the Drupal 7 platform. If you need help with a certain topic and don’t see it covered in the Help Center, please let us know and we can add it.
See http://www.bookweb.org/indiecommerce/indiecommerce-help-center

Videos - The IndieCommerce team has updated many of our training videos, and will be releasing them online in the coming weeks. The videos will cover a variety of topics, and while some may be familiar we encourage you to review them all, especially as many advanced videos refer to earlier topics.

A sample of the topics covered in the videos:

  • Content Types – An Overview
  • Creating content (Page, Event, etc.)
  • Uploading images
  • Blocks – Create, configure, and position
  • Menus – Create, configure, Superfish menu
  • Custom Product Classes - Create, configure, add new fields, manage display
  • Discount Coupons - Create coupon codes, configure and add restrictions
  • Staff Reviews - 2 ways of adding staff reviews, difference between the 2
  • ThemeKey

Webinars - Training webinars are coming to IndieCommerce! Each will last for 60 minutes, and will be conducted via GoToMeeting. IndieCommerce staff will be available to discuss any topic of your choosing, whether or not in the training materials. We also hope to spend a concentrated time on a single topic, such as a new feature. Each webinar will be limited to 20 attendees; please look out for updates regarding these webinars and instructions on how to join them.

Tentatively scheduled webinar dates: Sept. 23, Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and Nov. 18, from 2-3 pm EST.

New Features
We are pleased to announce two new features we have added to the Drupal platform:

ISBN 10 Search - ISBN 10 search is now available on all sites. By default, ISBN-10s entered into a search bar will automatically be converted to ISBN-13, and the customer will be taken directly to the matching book. If you have custom products listed on your site using regular ISBN 10, and if you find the ISBN 10 search interfering with custom product search, you can disable ISBN 10 search on your site by selecting that option on the Store Preferences page:

Store -> Configuration -> Account Information and Preferences -> Store Preferences -> ‘Disable Search by ISBN-10’

Hide Logo in Invoice - If your site logo is very big and in color and if you wish to remove it from order invoices, you can opt to do so on the Store Preferences page:

Store -> Configuration -> Account Information and Preferences -> Store Preferences -> ‘Hide Logo in Invoice’

Updates
As part of the monthly maintenance window, the following updates were applied on Sept. 8:

  • Drupal 7.39, ctools 7.x-1.9, ckeditor 7.x-1.16
  • Low priority updates to a lot of packages, including Apache

Authorize.net Security Update - Stores using their own Authorize.net Payment Gateway received an email from Authorize.net regarding a couple of technical updates. We received that same notification and we have done the necessary testing to confirm that IndieCommerce will not be affected by these updates. We will continue to monitor these updates and take the necessary steps. Stores using their own Authorize.net account are not required to take any action for this.

Lastly, an Authorize.net Price Promotion
Stores that would like to have their own Authorize.net account can make use of the Waived Setup Fee Promotion by Authorize.net, if the account is created using this link:
http://reseller.authorize.net/application/?id=5553923

This promotion is available until September 30th.
Please refer to http://www.bookweb.org/indiecommerce/using-your-own-authorizenet-account for detailed instructions on setting up your own Authorize.net account.

Stay in Touch
Please continue to let me and the rest of the IndieCommerce team know what you need, what is working, and what isn’t. Our development list results from member feedback. You can expect regular IndieCommunications newsletters in the weeks to come.

And if others in your store should be getting this email, please let us know by signing up here.

Many thanks, and best wishes,

Geetha Nathan and the IndieCommerce team
