Event Tickets and Signed Copies

Event tickets and signed copies can be a great way to drive traffic to your site, and generate sales.

We recommend setting up a seperate product class for these typesof products. For more on creating classes and products, please review this PDF.  Having a seperate product class will allow you to find the product easier, and control settings like eligible shipping methods, and whether or not tax is included in the price of the ticket.

There are a variety of different ways to manage signed copies, and sell event tickets on your IndieCommerce site.  Many stores have found that they can be an effective way to generate traffic to the site, and we have selected a few case studies below.

Fountain Bookstore

  • Site focuses on events, and signed copies.
  • Creates eye catching custom graphics for events.
  • Offers individual signed copy products for each event, and customers are instructed to pay online.

Skylight Books

  • Uses a "$0.00" custom product to designate a signed copy. This method helps eliminate the extra step of making a signed copy for each signing.
  • The custom product adds a field to customize the message, and prevents an order from going to Ingram.
  • Block linking to the signed product appears at checkout to remind the customer.

Rainy Day Books

  • Bundles event tickets in a variety of ways, with a copy of the book, multiple admissions, etc.

Other helpful tips:

  • If you are selling signed copies for a particular event, we recommend temporarily disabling automatic Ingram fulfillment on the Store preferences page so orders can be checked for signed copies before they fulfill from the warehouse.
  • Add specific ordering instructions on large events; are tickets only available for in store pick-up? Must they all be paid for online? It's helpful to streamline the ticket process so there is less confusion on the day of the event.
  • If you'd like to have the product paid for online, and picked up in store, use the 'Product is not shippable' box.
  • If your author is signing custom messages, include an attribute with a blank field in your product.
