Upcoming Events

Create a view that will populate with upcoming author events, and will include a field for an author photo.

First, go to Content management > Content types > Edit Event > Manage fields

Add new field, label 'Author Photo,' field_author_photo. Field type 'File,' form element 'Image.'
On the next screen, default values can be left in place. Click 'Save field settings' at the bottom.

Site Building – Views – Add

View Name : events_upcoming

View Description: Upcoming events at our store

View tag: events

View type: Node

Now in ‘Edit view events_upcoming’

  • Filters – Add filter

    • Node: Type - Is One Of - Event

    • Node: Published - Yes (always set this!)

    • Event: Event Start - is greater than or equal to - An offset from the current time = 'now' (enter 'now' in the value box.)

  • Sort Criteria

    • Event: Event Start – ascending

  • Basic Settings

    • Row Style: be sure it’s set to 'Fields'

    • Style: be sure it’s set to 'Unformatted' (for now)

    • Items to Display: change it to 5 (or however many you'd like to display.)

    • More Link: Create More Link

  • Fields – add field (make sure fields are in this order; if not, rearrange.)

    • Node: Title

      • delete the label

      • link this field to its node

    • Event: Event Start

      • Delete the label

      • Choose desired date format

    • Content: Author Photo

      • Check Link this field to its node

      • Label: None

      • Format: (here you can choose any imagecache setting). Let’s choose ‘product image’

  • Left side – Block – Add Display

    • Block settings – Admin – Upcoming Events at our Store

At this point we are done configuring the block. Now we will add the page display:

  • Page – Add Display

  • Page settings – Path – events/upcoming

  • Basic Settings

    • Items to display – OVERRIDE – 10

    • Use Pager – ensure OVERRIDE is still on (button will say “Use Default” instead) – Full pager

    • Row Style – OVERRIDE – Node

      • Build mode – Teaser

      • Or Inline Fields

        • Node : Title

        • Event : Start Date

        • Content : Author Photo

Done with the page. Now we will add an RSS feed.

  • Feed – Add Display

  • Basic settings

    • Style – OVERRIDE - RSS feed

    • Row Style – OVERRIDE - Node

    • Items to display – OVERRIDE – 20

  • Feed settings

    • Path – events/upcoming/feed

    • Attach to - Page
