Today, the American Booksellers Association announced that it will be presenting its second Children’s Institute, hosted by the ABC Children’s Group at ABA. The full-day education program, on Monday, April 7, 2014, at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Antonio Downtown in San Antonio, Texas, is open exclusively to ABC Group member booksellers. Participants will be welcomed at an opening reception on Sunday evening, April 6.

The Children’s Institute will precede the Texas Library Association’s (TLA) annual conference in San Antonio, and the ABC Group is working with TLA to find opportunities for collaboration.

A number of scholarships to the Children’s Institute will be available — just as they are for the Winter Institute — and booksellers are invited to drop off their business cards at the ABA booth at the fall regional trade shows for an extra chance to win.

The 2014 Children’s Institute will feature an Opening Plenary, Closing Reception, Children’s Rep Picks Luncheon, roundtables, and a diverse array of important educational programming, including sessions on:

  • Selling Picture Books in the Wake of Age Compression
  • How to Address Censorship in Schools
  • Diversity in Children’s Literature
  • The Law of Attraction: How to Entice Publicists and Authors
  • Child Development & Literacy
  • How to Host a Successful Teacher Night

Registration for the Children’s Institute will open in October, and the conference fee will be $79. The special hotel rate will be $119 per night. More details about the event are forthcoming.

Winter Institute 2014 will also feature a full schedule of children’s programming. Watch for details when Wi9 registration opens next week.
