The American Booksellers Association is sponsoring an Emerging Leaders Scholarship, covering reasonable transportation costs to the Third Annual Winter Institute Wi3) in Louisville, Kentucky, and up to a three-night hotel stay at the host hotel, the Louisville Marriott Downtown. Booksellers at ABA member bookstores who are committed to furthering the success of independent bookselling are encouraged to apply.

The Emerging Leaders Project was begun by ABA member booksellers who saw the need to identify and foster the development of the next generation of booksellers. "Recognizing the importance of the Emerging Leaders' mission and the value of the Wi3 program to booksellers at all levels of experience, ABA is once again offering a scholarship to help one of its member booksellers attend the event," explained Education Coordinator Lisa Winn.

Applications for ABA's Emerging Leaders Scholarships may be submitted via e-mail by candidates themselves or by booksellers' employers. The bookseller or employer should include a brief explanation of why the applicant would be considered to be an Emerging Leader, as well as the nominee's and the nominator's name, e-mail address, phone number, and store name and location. Applications should be sent to Winn at [email protected] by Monday, October 22; include "EL Scholarship" in the e-mail subject line.

Last week, ABA announced the start of the application process for more than 24 publisher-sponsored scholarships open to booksellers at any member store. (Read more.)
