On July 14, the ABC Children’s Group at ABA, which is dedicated to expanding the reach of children’s books, launched a new monthly e-newsletter for ABC Group members, Flashlight.

The July issue of Flashlight features a link to an LGBTQIA resource list of children’s-focused titles; a callout for joke book recommendations in honor of National Tell a Joke Day in August; a look back on the writing career of author Nicola Yoon, who was an early favorite of indie booksellers with her Indies Introduce debut, Everything, Everything (Ember); and a special offer for ABC Group members from Chronicle Books in honor of the publisher’s 50th anniversary.

Upcoming issues of Flashlight will feature details on publisher promotions, inspirational ideas for events, guest posts, social media shout-outs, and more. ABC Group members are also invited to send comments and suggestions for the newsletter to ABC Group Manager Gen de Botton.

All ABA member booksellers are welcome to join the ABC Children’s Group; annual dues are $50. In addition to the Flashlight newsletter, benefits of membership in the ABC Children’s Group include:

  • Exclusive benefits relating to Children’s Institute registration
  • 250 free ABC Best Books for Young Readers catalogs
  • A dedicated listserv
  • A free “Snack Nap Read” poster upon joining

Bookstores that are not ABA members can join ABA and select the opt-in option for the ABC Children’s Group membership on their application. Questions about the ABC Children’s Group at ABA should be directed to de Botton.
