AGs Join with FTC, Better Business Bureau to Help Small Businesses Combat Fraud

Attorneys General for 12 states have joined with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in a partnership called “Operation Main Street.”

The partnership will combat scams targeting small businesses, such as bank or credit card company imposters, fraudulent directory listing and advertising services, fake invoices or fraudulent supplier bills, fake checks, and technology support scams.

Operation Main Street’s effort to protect small businesses includes 24 actions against defendants who allegedly perpetrated scams against small businesses across the country. Scammers collected more than $290 million from businesses in these cases. In addition, the FTC and BBB have created resources to help small businesses to protect themselves from scams.

The Attorneys General working with FTC and BBB are from Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
