The Advocates for Independent Businesses (AIB), a coalition of trade associations representing independent businesses, including founding member American Booksellers Association (ABA), recently launched a survey, “Independents in the Changing Retail Landscape,” to assess how indies are being impacted by changes in the retail business.

ABA is urging its member booksellers to complete the survey to help AIB gather crucial data that could help the association better serve its members.

With this survey, AIB is aiming to collect valuable data that can contribute to larger media and public policy discussions by adding specific information about independent businesses.

The information gathered from the survey could also be used to provide news outlets with stories distinctly about independent retailers. While there have been numerous recent reports about how national chains and malls are closing locations and what these changes mean for American retail, most of these stories have focused on large chain stores.

For the survey to be as effective as possible, ABA is urging its member booksellers to complete the survey, which should take approximately five minutes. The survey closes on Monday, September 25, at midnight Pacific Time. The survey can be accessed here.

Booksellers who have questions about the survey can contact ABA Director of Public Policy & Advocacy David Grogan at [email protected] or (800) 637-0037, ext. 7562.
