Children's Institute logoAll registrants for the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute (Ci5), taking place April 5–7 in Portland, Oregon, should be thinking about their favorite children’s, middle grade, or young adult title to bring along for the Backlist Book Swap Party.

The Ci5 Welcome Reception and Backlist Book Swap Party will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at Powell’s City of Books in downtown Portland.

Attendees should let ABA know now what backlist book they plan to bring to the party. Following the Children’s Institute, ABA will supply a full list of the books shared at the Backlist Book Swap, along with information about who brought each title.

Because this year’s Backlist Book Swap is taking place at Powell’s Books, attendees who wish to participate but did not plan ahead will have the chance to purchase their pick from Powell’s shelves prior to the party. Booksellers and publishers participating in the full- or half-day bookstore tours in the Portland area will also have the opportunity to pick up a book while on their tours.

Titles selected for the Backlist Book Swap should be at least five years old and still be in print. The giver should also include a bookmark with their contact information, so the person who picks up the book knows who recommended it.

There is still time to register for the Children’s Institute, but space is limited and there is a maximum of five registrants per ABA member business. The Ci5 conference fee is $99 per bookseller.

Booksellers may cancel their Children’s Institute registration at any time by e-mailing [email protected]. Cancellations received prior to March 1 are eligible for a full refund of registration fees; cancellations received on or after March 1 are not eligible for refund.

Children’s Institute 2017 is made possible by the support of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor with additional support from publisher sponsors large and small.
