BEA Adult Book & Author Breakfast Speakers Announced

Comedian and journalist Faith Salie, of NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! and CBS News Sunday Morning will host BookExpo America’s Adult Book & Author Breakfast at the 2016 trade show. The breakfast will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, in the Special Events Hall at Chicago’s McCormick Place, BEA announced on Tuesday.

Salie, author of the upcoming title Approval Junkie: Adventures In Caring Too Much (Crowne Archetype) will be master of ceremonies for the event featuring:

  • Sebastian Junger (Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging, Twelve)
  • Colson Whitehead (The Underground Railroad: A Novel, Doubleday)
  • Louise Penny (A Great Reckoning, Minotaur)

The breakfast panelists will discuss their upcoming releases, the inspiration behind their writing, and the writing process and the importance of books in today’s culture.

“Our Adult Book & Author Breakfast is one of the most sought-after events at BEA each year,” said BEA Event Director Steven Rosato. “We are thrilled with this lineup of outstanding authors and know that their insightful discussion will offer attendees a memorable morning.”

In December, BEA announced that the Children’s Breakfast, on Friday, May 13, would be hosted by Golden Globe-winning actress and bestselling author Jamie Lee Curtis (This Is Me: A Story of Who We Are and Where We Came From, Workman). The event, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in McCormick Place’s Special Events Hall, will feature:

  • Sabaa Tahir (A Torch Against the Night, Razorbill)
  • Gene Luen Yang (Secret Coders: Secrets & Sequences, First Second Books)
  • Dav Pilkey (Dog Man, Scholastic)

Registration for BEA, which runs from Wednesday, May 11, through Friday, May 13, opened in December. Register for BEA here; then reserve a room at the Drake Hotel, this year’s Hotel ABA, at the ABA member rate of $199 plus 16.4 percent tax per night (restrictions apply).

As in previous years, all ABA Regular Bookstore and Provisional members are eligible to receive free admission to the trade show and BEA conference sessions if they provide their ABA Membership ID number during the registration process.
