From 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, until midnight on Tuesday, May 13, BookSense.com participating stores are offering customers free downloads of Betrayal, Book One of the Del Rey series Star Wars: Legacy of the Force. The publisher, which is also offering the free download on its own website, is offering the book as a "special gift" to Star Wars fans. Others featuring the download are Powells.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Overstock.com, and Borders.com.

"This giveaway is a great way to introduce the legions of Star Wars fans to our books," said Christine Cabello, deputy director of marketing at the Random House Publishing Group, who oversaw the execution of this project. "We also expect that it will build awareness and excitement for the on-sale date of the final book in the series, Invincible."

"We're happy to partner with Del Rey on this initiative," said Ricky Leung, BookSense.com director. "By offering consumers a free download of Betrayal, BookSense.com store sites are introducing new readers to the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series and enticing consumers to purchase other books in the series. We expect this promotion to be a great marketing vehicle for participating stores."

A New York Times bestselling series, Legacy of the Force, which introduces readers to a new era in the Star Wars universe, answers the questions of what happened to Han, Luke and Leia after the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Book Nine, the final book in the series, Star Wars: Legacy of the Force: Invincible, will go on sale as a Del Rey hardcover on May 13. Book Eight, Revelation, reached number one on the New York Times paperback bestseller list.

Del Rey is supporting the free download with a major online marketing campaign including an announcement in the Star Wars e-newsletter, promotion on StarWars.com, and banner advertising.
