150-Plus Independent Bookstores Offer Libro.fm Digital Audiobooks

Libro.fm, the digital audiobook provider for independent bookstores, is now available in more than 150 indie bookstore locations throughout the U.S.

Customers can go to Libro.fm/indies, select a local independent bookstore, and choose from tens of thousands of audiobooks, including the latest bestsellers. Libro.fm lets customers browse any store’s co-branded storefront in-store or at home using their choice of device, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktops.

“We are thrilled to give people the option to buy digital audiobooks through more than 159 indie bookstore locations and look forward to bringing more stores on board in the coming year,” said Libro.fm CEO Mark Pearson. “Sales of digital audiobooks were up more than 34 percent in 2015 and indie stores can finally participate in fastest growing category in publishing.”

CBC Introduces ABA Institute Scholarships for Publishing Staff

Scholarship applications are now being accepted from publishers that are members of the Children’s Book Council (CBC) for entry-level employees to attend ABA’s Winter Institute or Children’s Institute in 2017.

The newly created scholarship to either the Winter Institute in Minneapolis in January 2017 or the Children’s Institute in Portland, Oregon, in April 2017 will include airfare and hotel costs. At the institutes, recipients will work at the Every Child a Reader table with a CBC staffer to sign up booksellers for Children’s Book Week.

Applications consisting of a 50- to 100-word pitch and one reference contact should be e-mailed to Alexa Frank at [email protected] by November 15. Members of the CBC Early Career Committee and the CBC Diversity Committee will make their decisions by December 1.

Nominations Open for National Small Business Week Awards

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is currently calling for nominations for the 2017 National Small Business Week Awards. Small businesses with amazing success stories will be recognized during 2017 National Small Business Week, which takes place from April 30 through May 6.

The submission deadline for the National Small Business Week Awards is January 10, 2017. Awards guidelines include all 14 award categories as well as eligibility criteria, selection process, evaluation criteria, and how to submit a nomination package.

Ingram Academic Services to Distribute Stanford University Press and University of Ottawa Press

Ingram Academic Services has signed multi-year agreements for print and digital sales and distribution with Stanford University Press and University of Ottawa Press.

Under the deal, announced at this month’s Frankfurt Book Fair, the two academic publishers will use Ingram Content Group’s warehousing and worldwide distribution network, sales organization, digital asset management, academic marketing, and other services through Ingram Publisher Services to expand their market presence.

Association of American University Presses Moves Central Office

The central office of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) in New York City has moved to 1412 Broadway, Suite 2135, New York, NY 10018.

According to AAUP, the move “is a culmination of improvements to the association’s infrastructure and workflows, undertaken to better serve the strategic goals of the association in a landscape of changing technology and increasing collaboration. The new space offers both more robust networking capacity and flexible meeting space to accommodate program needs.”

The AAUP’s general phone number — (212) 989-1010 — has not changed, although staff members do have new direct dial lines.
