Kristen McLean, the founder and CEO of Bookigee and co-chair of Nielsen’s Children’s Book Summit, will present a review of the U.S. children’s book market, with a deep-dive into the latest trends in pricing, volume, genres, gifting, and more, at the 2015 ABC Children’s Institute (Ci3) in Pasadena, California.  Originally offered as part of a full day of presentations on the findings of the 2014 Nielsen Children’s Book Industry Report, “The U.S. Children’s Book Market: Where We Are and Where We’re Going” will provide essential information on the state of the industry drawn from Nielsen’s full portfolio of sales and demographic data.

McLean is a 20-year veteran of the book publishing market, an entrepreneur, and an industry thought leader. In 2011, she formed Bookigee, an analytics company that partners with other businesses to produce next-generation products and services for the publishing and content industries. Since 2010, she has edited Nielsen Book’s in-depth consumer study of the children’s book market, “Children’s Books in the Digital World,” which originated at R.R. Bowker. In 2013, she co-chaired O’Reilly Media’s Author (R)evolution Day, a Tools of Change conference for professional authors and creators, and in 2014 she became the co-chair of Nielsen’s Children’s Book Summit, an annual marketplace trend event focusing on the children’s content space. Prior to forming Bookigee, McLean was the executive director of the Association of Booksellers for Children (now the ABC Children’s Group at ABA).

“The U.S. Children’s Book Market: Where We Are and Where We’re Going” will be presented from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Information on the full Children’s Institute program is available here.

Registration is now at capacity, but ABA members who would like to attend can add their names to a waitlist here. Booksellers on the waitlist will be contacted on a first-come, first-served basis if space becomes available.

Ci3 registrants who are no longer planning to attend are asked to contact the American Booksellers Association as soon as possible so waiting booksellers can take their places. Anyone who no longer needs their reservations at the host hotel, the Hilton Pasadena, is asked to contact ABA Meetings and Planning Officer Jill Perlstein by noon on Friday, April 3. After that date, reservations should be canceled directly with the hotel to avoid a no-show fee of one night’s room rate and tax.
