Booksellers are encouraged to celebrate Children’s Book Week, May 2–8, by participating in a display contest sponsored by the Children’s Book Council (CBC) and Every Child a Reader in partnership with the ABC Children’s Group at ABA.

Displays should highlight this year’s Children’s Book Week theme — celebrating children’s books and reading — and be mounted within stores or in windows from April 30 to May 8 to be considered.

Displays will be judged on their uniqueness and creativity, their use of space, and their eye-catching appeal. Bonus points will be awarded to bookstores incorporating the 2016 Children’s Book Week poster and the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards finalists.

The winning bookstore will earn a visit from a winner or finalist of the 2016 Children’s Choice Book Awards, as well as coverage in the Children’s Book Council’s Update newsletter, in ABA’s Bookselling This Week, and in social media posts and on bookweekonline.com.

Pictures of displays, along with a photo credit, must be submitted to ABC Children’s Group Manager Matthew Zoni by May 6.

The Children’s Book Council is also encouraging booksellers to launch book drives in their stores during Children’s Book Week to benefit their local community literacy organization or a national program, such as Reach Out and Read, which incorporates books into pediatric care, or Operation Paperback, which coordinates book donations to soldiers and their families. Find full details and the Book Drive one-sheet on the Children’s Book Week Booksellers Page.

Events in celebration of Children’s Book Week will be taking place at bookstores and libraries in all 50 states this year. See the full list of planned events here, and check out additional ideas for celebrating Children’s Book Week on the event’s Booksellers Page.
