A total of 430 stores have indicated their intent to participate in this year’s celebration of Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) on April 30, by ordering nearly 22,000 exclusive literary-themed items to sell during the event.

“We have lots of new stores participating for the first time and we’re thrilled with the growth,” said IBD Program Director Samantha Schoech. Store participation is up more than 15 percent over last year.

Merchandise ordering for Independent Bookstore Day closed on February 1. All orders will be shipped by April 15.

Booksellers can display IBD items as they arrive, but no items may be sold until April 30. Starting May 8, booksellers can sell remaining items on their store websites; however, they are asked not to sell the items on third-party sites.

Questions about ordering or catalog items should be directed to IBD Program Director Samantha Schoech or NCIBA Executive Director Calvin Crosby
