Independent Bookstore Day Merchandise Ordering Begins January 15

Booksellers planning to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on April 30 can begin placing orders for exclusive, literary-themed merchandise next week through the online catalog, which will be available at www.indiebookstoreday.com on January 15. The deadline for orders is February 1.

The 2016 list of limited-edition Independent Bookstore Day items features:

  • Draw Me! How to Draw…Your Favorite Kids Book Characters, Plus Treasure Maps, Flip Books, and Other Cool Stuff! with art by Raina Telgemeier, Mo Willems, Tedd Arnold, Lisa Brown, Kazu Kibuishi, David LaRochelle, and others (CBD Publishing)
  • A special signed edition of Kate DiCamillo’s Raymie Nightingale, with a bound-in mini-essay on the joys of books and bookstores (Candlewick)
  • A “Bad Citizen” stencil reading: “Think before you speak. Read before you think.” —Fran Lebowitz (CBD Publishing)
  • $6 Story: The Care and Feeding of an Independent Bookstore, 3 Instructive Essays by Ann Patchett, signed by the author (CBD Publishing)

Booksellers attending Winter Institute 11 this month in Denver (January 23–26) can view the merchandise in-person and place orders with Independent Bookstore Day at the Consultation Station.

Booksellers can also promote Independent Bookstore Day with free bookmarks, courtesy of Candlewick, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, and the American Booksellers Association. The bookmarks include a white space for bookstores to add their store names using stickers or stamps. Bookmarks can be ordered in increments of 500 and orders can be placed via the online catalog; they will arrive with the March ABA Red Box.
