Independent presses will host a reception for booksellers at the official ABA hotel, the Holiday Inn on 57th in midtown Manhattan, during BookExpo America 2011.

Booksellers are invited to mingle with independent presses and their authors on the Holiday Inn’s rooftop event space from 9:00 p.m. to midnight on Monday, May 23. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

“I can’t think of a better way for us to kick off BEA than by celebrating the natural alliance of indie booksellers and indie publishers with a party on the roof of the ABA’s convention hotel,” said Paul Kozlowski, associate publisher of Other Press, an organizer of the event. A wonderful roster of publishers and authors have joined with us, all of whom are grateful for the hard work and unflagging enthusiasm of America’s independent booksellers – they’re the heroes who keep the culture of books alive in hundreds of communities across the country. We can’t wait to raise a glass to them – and buy them a drink!”

The night’s other hosts will include Graywolf Press, Unbridled Books, Seven Stories, Europa Editions, Archipelago Books, Beacon Press, Quirk Books, and Mark Batty Publisher. A list of participating authors will be published in BTW prior to the event.

As previously announced, the Random House Publishing Group will welcome booksellers to New York City and BEA by hosting a hospitality suite with authors in attendance on Sunday evening, May 22, at the Holiday Inn. Watch BTW for more details about this and other special events.

The Holiday Inn on 57th Street was secured by BEA exclusively for ABA bookseller members attending this year’s show. The special low rate for ABA bookseller members ($175 for one or two beds, single or double occupancy; $190 for triple occupancy; and $205 for a quad) is good until May 3. (Learn more about the hotel and obtain the ABA member booking code here; other hotel options are available via the BEA website.)

All ABA Regular Bookstore and Provisional members that register for BEA 2011 are eligible for a number of free badges. (Details of the free badge offer are available to members here.)
