The IndieBound movement, launched by the American Booksellers Association at last year's BookExpo America, has been honored as one of the top rebrands of the year by the 2009 ReBrand 100 Global Awards. This is the second recent accolade for IndieBound, which in February was named to the 2009 Associations Advance America Honor Roll by the American Society of Association Executives and the Center for Association Leadership in Washington, D.C.

A multidisciplinary jury of prominent, international, industry experts named IndieBound a 2009 brand of distinction. Past winners include global organizations, Fortune 500 corporations, small businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, cities, and universities around the world, including entries from Brazil, Canada, China, India, Italy, Lebanon, Romania, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The ReBrand 100 Global Awards IndieBound webpage offers a look at the transformation from the "old" look of Book Sense to the exciting, new look of IndieBound, whose strategy is to "celebrate the joy of shopping and living locally [and] unite all independent stores, be they bookstores or music stores or grocery stores."

IndieBound, noted ReBrand 100, has garnered "high praise by publishers, bookstore owners and employees, authors, media, and readers. The 'Declaration of Independents' has over 1,400 signatures, and IndieBound has recently begun their own online community. Local shop owners feel as though they have the tools to fight big box retailers, and to find their own niche within their community."

IndieBound was developed by ABA working with identity-company Brains on Fire.
