This week’s edition of IndieCommunication includes a caution about scams, information on the next training webinar, and reminders about updating store contacts and admin accounts.

E-Commerce Scam Alert

If an order looks too good to be true or something about it just doesn’t seem quite right, don’t hesitate to investigate before you ship the order. A bit of caution when processing transactions can save you a great deal of money.

For more on this subject, check out Bookselling This Week’s June 8 article “Fraudulent Orders and Other Deceptive Practices Making the Rounds.”

IC Webinars Update

There will be no IndieCommerce webinar the week of June 20 as many ABA members will be attending the ABC Children’s Institute in Orlando. “Discount Coupons, Part 2” has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, and Thursday, June 30.

Register for the webinar here.

Who Are You?

Ensure that your contact information is up to date so IndieCommerce staff can reach you if there’s an issue with your store site: log in to your IndieCommerce account and check to see that the best e-mail address and phone number are listed. Go to Store -> Configuration -> Store and fill out the fields at the bottom of the “Basic Information” page.

While you’re at it, tell us exactly who should be getting ABA e-mails by completing the BookWeb E-mail Preference Form.

Tips and Tricks

Each store staff member with access to your IndieCommerce website should have their own account and the proper “role,” depending on the work they do on the site.

Instructions for creating admin accounts are available in the IC Help Center.

Ordering Kobo eReaders

Kobo Touch 2.0, an entry-level eReader priced at $89.99, is perfect for customers who are new to eReading. Check out the Touch 2.0 specs here; then order directly from the Kobo corporate store for pre-affiliated devices to sell in-store.

If your store doesn’t have a corporate account, you will need to register and obtain a password. E-mail Catherine Villar at Kobo for information.

You can grab the Touch 2.0 banner for your website from the Kobo DIY on BookWeb.org.
