IndieCommunication: Drupal 7 Upgrade Update

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Earlier this summer, the IndieCommerce team announced four store groupings for the Drupal 7 upgrade as well as a commitment to open the platform to all types of sites, from simple to complex, before the holiday season. The team has been able to keep that commitment and will soon be reaching out to stores that have not yet indicated a preferred time for their site migration.

Two things of note:

  • During the summer, the IndieCommerce team developed a “no touch” service for simple sites whose DNS is hosted by ABA. In these cases, the entire migration process can be completed with minimal store involvement and with little disruption to the store’s online presence. Stores whose DNS is not hosted by ABA may still be eligible for an “almost no touch” service; this option only requires cooperation from store personnel at the very tail-end of the process (the “go live” switchover to the new site). In either case, the IndieCommerce team will offer these “no touch” options to eligible stores as they approach in the queue.

  • Many stores have opted to migrate their sites either later this year — including during the holidays — or after the first of the year. The IndieCommerce team can easily accommodate these preferences and will do all it can to have every store site migrated to the new platform before the end of March 2015.

To add their sites to Drupal 7 queue, stores should send an e-mail to [email protected], and the team will follow-up at a later date about specific timing options.

To keep abreast of upgrade news, stores that haven’t already should sign up for Upgrade Update calls featuring ABA Technology Director Neil Strandberg. The calls take place at 4:00 p.m. ET on Thursdays. Booksellers are requested to register for calls in advance.
