Michael Moore

Michael Moore, the filmmaker and author; financial journalist Ron Insana; New York Times reporter Claudia Dreifus; and children's authors Alan Katz and Katie Davis have added their names to the list of authors who will participate in an online auction sponsored by the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) on March 27-29. ABFFE is the bookseller's voice in the fight against censorship.

The ABFFE Author Auction will give booksellers a chance to get to know some of their favorite authors, including six award-winning children's writers and illustrators -- Leonard Marcus, Chris Raschka, Robert Sabuda, Jon Scieszka, Peter Sis, and Vera B. Williams. The meetings, which will occur during BookExpo America in New York, will be auctioned in the Online Auction section of the ABFFE Web site, www.abffe.com.

Moore's most recent title is Stupid White Men ... and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation (HarperCollins). He is also the director of the award-winning documentary Roger and Me. Moore is drawing large crowds on his tour promoting Stupid White Men, which is already high on the bestseller lists.

Insana is one of the country's leading financial journalists. The co-anchor of CNBC's signature program, Business Center, he is a regular contributor to NBC's Today Show, The Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, and Imus in the Morning. In 1999, he was named one of the top 100 business news journalists of the century. He is the author of several books, including the forthcoming Trendspotting (HarperBusiness).

Dreifus is renowned for her interviews with the world's leading artists, entertainers, politicians, and spiritual leaders. Her latest book is Scientific Conversations: Interviews on Science from the New York Times (Times Books/Henry Holt), which includes conversations with 40 scientists on the cutting edge of research in their fields.

Katz is the author of the bestselling Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs (Simon & Schuster), a finalist for the Book Sense Book of the Year Award. He has written television comedy for both children and adults and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

Davis is the author and illustrator of the very colorful and funny Who Hops? (Harcourt), an award-winning book for young children. Her book I Hate to Go to Bed (Harcourt) was selected for the Children's Book Council's "Children's Choice 2000." Harcourt will publish her latest work, Party Animals, in September.

All of the authors in the ABFFE auction live or work in the New York City area and will meet with the winners for an hour and a half on May 4 or May 5, during BookExpo. The two highest bidders for each author will win and may each bring two friends to the meeting. The winners will also receive five autographed copies of the author's latest work.

Participation in the auction is limited to booksellers who are members of ABFFE, the American Booksellers Association, the Association of Booksellers for Children, or one of the regional bookseller associations. More information is available at www.abffe.com.
