Ordering Opens on Indies First Special Offers

Now is the time to prepare for your store’s participation in the third annual celebration of Indies First on Small Business Saturday, this year November 28.

For the entire month of October, ABA member stores can take advantage of specials on a wide array of frontlist and backlist titles from publishers that are showing their support for Indies First. Ordering opens today on more than a dozen offers; ABA member booksellers who are logged into BookWeb can access the promo codes, as well as Indies First promotional materials, here.

Booksellers who will be hosting authors on Small Saturday are also encouraged to check the specials to see if they include titles that their guest booksellers will be handselling during their visit.

In letter dated September 16, Cheryl Strayed, this year’s Indies First spokesperson, called on her author colleagues to show their support for indie booksellers by serving as honorary booksellers for the day and by linking from their own websites to their local independent bookstores (or IndieBound.org) for book sales.

In addition, in the October Red Box mailing, stores will receive Indies First marketing materials, including co-branded bookmarks from American Express, Indies First balloons, and blue Indies First bags. Thanks to Penguin Random House, this year ABA will be shipping even more Indies First bags gratis to participating member stores, and booksellers can once again order more bags at cost. These lightweight, reusable bags are available in packages of 25 for $25.
