Planning for next year’s Independent Bookstore Day (IBD), which will be held Saturday, April 29, is underway, and ordering is now open for the official 2017 Independent Bookstore Day T-shirts and tote bags.

Independent Bookstore Day 2017 official design

This year’s T-shirts and totes will feature a design by Lisa Brown, creator of the 3-Panel Book Review cartoon for the San Francisco Chronicle’s book section, illustrator of Lemony Snicket’s The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming (McSweeney’s), and author and illustrator of Picture the Dead (Sourcebooks Fire), How to Be (HarperCollins), and Baby, Mix Me A Drink (McSweeney’s).

Orders can be placed now via the Independent Bookstore Day website. Bundles of 10 bags are $75; bundles of five T-shirts (various sizes are available to choose from) are $55. Prices include free shipping. The color of this year’s T-shirts and totes is navy.

Booksellers can also purchase T-shirts and tote bags featuring the designs from 2016 and 2015.

Unless otherwise requested, orders will be shipped in early January. Booksellers wishing to sell the T-shirts and totes over the holidays can request to receive them earlier.

The full catalog of special literary-themed items for Independent Bookstore Day will be released on January 15.

Independent Bookstore Day has also provided a sneak peek of authors who will be participating in events on April 29: Michael Chabon, Jenny Lawson, Oliver Jeffers, Rainbow Rowell, and Henry Louis Gates Jr.

The “For the Trade” page on the Independent Bookstore Day website offers downloadable logos, signs, and shelf-talkers; bookstore FAQs; a month-by-month guide to preparing for IBD; and more.
