Retail Sales at Bookstores Down in October

Retail sales at bookstores were down by 0.5 percent in October 2014 compared to October 2013, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census.

October 2014 bookstore sales are estimated at $728 million, compared to sales of $732 million for the same period last year.

Total retail and food service sales in October are estimated at $441.8 billion, compared to $421.4 billion in October 2013, an increase of 4.8 percent.
