While today is the deadline for ABACUS-14, bookstores that begin their submissions today — or that have not yet finished submitting their store’s information — will have until midnight (Pacific) on Tuesday, July 7, to finalize their submissions.

The owners and employees of stores that participate in this year’s ABACUS Survey will be eligible for the Avin Mark Domnitz Scholarship to Winter Institute 11 (Wi11). Next year, ABA’s premier educational event will be held in Denver, Colorado, and will open with a reception on Saturday, January 23, followed by three days of education and programming, from Sunday, January 24, through Tuesday, January 26.

Earlier this week in an e-mail to member stores, the ABA Board strongly urged booksellers to participate in ABACUS and thanked those who had already submitted their information. The Board wrote, “We so believe in the importance and value of ABACUS that, as your Board, we wanted to make a special, direct appeal to you to become part of the ABACUS community.” Characterizing ABACUS as “an incomparable bookseller tool,” the Board’s e-mail noted that “the customized data you will receive provides a roadmap that will prove immensely valuable in strategic planning, gaining access to capital, benchmarking, and managing your store to greater growth. It will also be a very useful tool should you plan to open a new store or a second location in the future.”

All ABA main store members were sent an e-mail in early June that included their unique ABACUS I.D. number, instructions for participating, and links to the online submission form. The e-mail bore the subject line “ABACUS-14 USE THIS LINK,” and the sender was Martha Love, the National Association of College Stores’ OnCampus Research information analyst.

Booksellers at stores that have submitted their 2014 financial data to ABACUS can apply for the Avin Mark Domnitz Scholarship by sending an e-mail with “Domnitz Scholarship” in the subject line to ABA Education Manager Lisa Winn. The e-mail should include the applicant’s name, staff title, store name, and store contact information.
