Bayshore Books Provides Set for Waterwalk

Last week, Bayshore Books [4] in Oconto, Wisconsin, experienced its first taste of fame as the store had a role in the production of Waterwalk [5], a film based on Steven Faulkner's novel of the same name [6].

In between filming, Waterwalk actors peruse Bayshore's inventory

Faulkner, a Wisconsin native, made an appearance at the store two years ago, following the debut of his book. Roger Rapoport, Waterwalk’s publisher and the film’s producer, recently asked Cathy Allard, the store's owner, for permission to film a scene outside of the bookstore. Allard was happy to consent, and participated in a long night of filming. The cast and crew moved bookcases, signs, and shelves in and out of the store in between shots as directed.

“There was a bustle of activity,” Allard wrote on her blog [7] later in the week. “It’s very interesting to be a spectator on the set.”

Waterwalk, which takes place in Michigan and Wisconsin, documents the journey Faulkner took with his son to retrace the historic 1673 route of French explorers Marquette and Joliet.

Filming lasted from 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. “but it was definitely worth the wait,” wrote Allard.

Hockessin Book Shelf Hosts Book Groups Open House
Open house brings local book groups to Hockessin Book Shelf

Hockessin Book Shelf [8] in Hockessin, Delaware, hosted an open house for book groups last Thursday. The store drew inspiration from the BookExpo America workshop “Hot Book Club Titles for Fall,” hosted by Carol Fitzgerald from bookreporter.com [9], which featured a discussion of the season's most anticipated titles.

Hockessin Book Shelf staff members used the information gained from the BEA session to plan its own book discussion. Over 10 local book groups were represented at the store.

“We had a blast talking about the books we loved, those that worked well for groups, and discussed the upcoming new releases,” said Rebecca, a Book Shelf staff member. “Wine, cheese, and books – what could be better?”
