Mark Your Calendars! Winter Institute Registration Opens September 13 [3]

Registration for the 13th annual Winter Institute, taking place January 22–25, 2018, in Memphis, Tennessee, will open on Wednesday, September 13.

Wi13 logoThis year’s event at the Sheraton Hotel and Memphis Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis will feature three full days of programming, including education sessions, bookseller panels, publisher-sponsored parties, and keynote speeches. This year’s speakers are:

  • Sarah Jessica Parker, award-winning actress and founder of the new literary fiction imprint SJP for Hogarth, in conversation with New York Times Book Review editor Pamela Paul, author of My Life With Bob: Flawed Heroine Keeps Book of Books, Plot Ensues (Henry Holt & Co.)
  • Daniel Pink, author of Drive, A Whole New Mind, To Sell Is Human, and the forthcoming When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, out January 9, 2018, from Riverhead
  • Junot Díaz, author of Drown, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, This Is How You Lose Her, and the forthcoming Islandborn, a children’s book out March 13, 2018, from Dial Books
  • Amy Webb, founder of the Future Today Institute and author of The Signals Are Talking: Why Today’s Fringe Is Tomorrow’s Mainstream; Data, a Love Story; and a forthcoming book about the future history of the great artificial intelligence awakening, out in 2019 from PublicAffairs/Hachette Book Group 
  • Alberto Manguel, author of A History of Reading, The Library at Night, The Dictionary of Imaginary Places, and the forthcoming Packing My Library: An Elegy and Ten Digressions, out March 2018 from Yale University Press

In addition to the institute, booksellers can also sign up for several events on Monday, January 22, including tours, day trips, and daylong workshops [5], ahead of the Wi13 opening reception that evening; registration for January 22 programming will open September 13 as well.

The Winter Institute 13 scholarship application [6] is open until Sunday, October 29, to booksellers from stores that did not have a scholarship winner in 2016 or 2017.
