Workshop to Present Fundamentals for New & Prospective Booksellers [1]

Posted on Wednesday, Sep 25, 2013

Registration is now open for a one-day workshop for new and prospective booksellers [2] to be presented by the Bookstore Training Group of Paz & Associates [3] on Tuesday, January 21, just prior to the opening of Winter Institute 2014 [4] in Seattle.

“How to Succeed at Retail Bookselling: Introduction to the Book Business” is an intensive overview of retail fundamentals and indie bookstore best practices that are essential to establishing a competitive business. The workshop, sponsored by ABA and facilitated by Donna Paz Kaufman and Mark Kaufman, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on January 21 at the institute’s host hotel, the Westin Seattle. The Winter Institute will kick off with an opening reception, sponsored by Shelf Awareness, at 7:00 p.m. that evening at The Elliott Bay Book Company [5].

The workshop is open to ABA-member new and prospective booksellers only. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The nonrefundable workshop registration fee of $100 includes lunch and two coffee breaks.

Current ABA members can sign up for the one-day intensive workshop here [6]; non-members can join the association [7] and then register for the workshop. (If you tried to register earlier and encountered a problem, please try again. The workshop registration form is now working properly.)

All workshop registrants are also eligible to attend the Winter Institute; this year’s conference fee is $79.99 per bookseller. Prospective booksellers who would like to attend the Winter Institute should contact ABA Education Manager Lisa Winn [8] regarding registration and ABA Meetings and Planning Officer Jill Perlstein [9] to be put on the hotel waiting list.

The Winter Institute is made possible by support from lead sponsor Ingram Content Group [10] and from publishers large and small. [11]
