Winter Institute 2014 Bookstore Tours

ABA is offering a total of four tours to Seattle-area bookstores.  The two full-day tours will start from the lobby of the Westin Seattle at 9:00 am and will return to the hotel between 6:00 pm and 6:15 pm. Both half-day tours will start from the hotel lobby at 1:00 pm and will return to the hotel between 5:15 pm and 5:20 pm. Stores on the tours include Third Place Books, Queen Anne Book Company, Eagle Harbor Book Co., Island Books, and more. You must register for book tours when you register for Wi9. Bottled water, fruit, and granola bars will be provided for the full day tours; bottled water will be provided for the half-day tours.

Tour 1: Full Day FULL - Space available on Tour 4

  • Third Place Books - Lake Forest Park Location: Third Place Books is the deliberate and intentional creation of a community around books and the ideas inside them. The Lake Forest Park location is a general interest bookstore with over 200,000 new, used, and bargain books.
     
  • University Bookstore - University District Location: The vision of the University Bookstore is to be "...the most trusted, respected, valued, and successful college store in existence, an indispensable resource in support of University of Washington's vision and an unforgettable attribute of the UW experience."
     
  • The Traveler, Inc.: The Traveler is the destination in Kitsap County for the best and most functional travel accessories, luggage, travel clothing and outfitting, guide books and maps and ebooks. They also offer language classes for travelers and special travel-related events and Travelogues year round.
     
  • Eagle Harbor Book Co.: In 1969, "Betty's Books" opened at 450 Winslow Way with 500 square feet of book selling space determined to carve a literary niche on Bainbridge Island. Now, more than 40 years later, a location two blocks west (157 Winslow Way), and with nearly ten times the space, Eagle Harbor Books is proud to provide quality literature and a place for the community to gather and share their love of words and knowledge.
     
  • Mockingbird Books: Mockingbird Books is a primarily children's bookstore specializing in knowledgeable, friendly service. At the Finch Café, Mockingbird Books offers a variety of espresso drinks crafted by  trained staff. Café goods are available either in store or via a pass-through window.
     
  • Queen Anne Book Company: Located in the the Queen Anne community of Seattle, the store was purchased in 2012 by community residents after the previous bookstore closed its doors late October 2012. The outcry was widely heard. The new owner partnership consists of long-time Queen Anne residents Krijn and Judy de Jonge and prior resident returning home Janis Segress. They are all passionate about their community and books and saw a way to help by coming together and providing a new bookstore for Queen Anne…one that has the goal of digging deep roots and thriving for a very long time.

The Secret Garden is a full-service, general bookstore, featuring books for everyone, with a particular specialty in children's books.
     
  • Book Larder: Book Larder offers a carefully selected collection of new, collectible, and imported cookbooks for lovers of food and cooking in Seattle and beyond. The store is also a spot to gather for author events, cooking classes, demonstrations and other food related discussions, both formal and informal.
