New! Bookseller/Publisher Programming—
Meet the Editor and One-on-One Publisher Meetings

In 2014, ABA moves beyond previous years’ single Day of Education, and expands programming so that sessions, networking and special events take place over all four days of the show. In addition to traditional educational offerings—some co-created with BEA—ABA Education delivers two opportunities to maximize this year’s focus on interactions between publishers and booksellers: Meet the Editor and One-on-One Publisher Meetings.

Separate sign-up is required for each. Space is limited. Registration has been extended and will close May 12, 2014, midnight EST. Registered booksellers will be emailed prior to BEA with publisher assignments and meeting information.

Schedule and format are subject to change.

ABA’s Meet the Editor: 8:45 to 11:30 am

Meet the Editor gives booksellers the opportunity to experience the book editing process through in-person visits with New York book editors at their offices.

Booksellers will meet in the lobby of Hotel ABA (Grand Hyatt at 42nd Street). From there, representatives from the various publishing houses will escort groups of 10-12 booksellers to their offices, where they will meet for 75 to 90 minutes.

The structure of the editor meetings will vary by publisher; they are meant to give a behind-the-scenes look at the philosophy and process of book editing. Booksellers will be on their own to return to Javits following the editor visits.

Pre-registration is required. Booksellers will be randomly assigned and will receive their publisher information by email prior to BEA.

One-on-One Publisher Meetings: 10 am to noon (Maximum participation is 150 owners and managers; first-come, first-served; limit 2 per ABA bookseller member company.)

Modeled after the popular “speed-dating” format, participating booksellers will meet with top publishing executives for 10 minutes each. Each bookseller will meet with a number of publishers. These conversations are a chance for publishers and booksellers to meet one-on-one and discuss topics of mutual interest; they are not a business review. One-on-One sessions are for bookstore owners and managers only. Booksellers will be randomly assigned and will receive their publisher information by email prior to BEA.
