Lead Bookseller

Books of Wonder, NYC’s oldest independent children’s bookstore, is seeking a lead bookseller to join our team of enthusiastic children’s booklovers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping lead our team of booksellers in working with customers to help them find the perfect books for the young people they are shopping for
  • Handling sales at the front desk, taking special orders, and dealing with customer service issues as they arise.
  • Working with authors, artists, publicists, and fellow team members to organize and facilitate the smooth running of all author and artist events at the store, as well as the occasional off-site event.
  • Checking in and shelving books as they arrive as well as reshelving books after customer browsing. Checking shelves regularly to make sure books are attractively displayed and properly organized for our customers.


  • Strong interest in and knowledge of children’s books
  • A warm, welcoming smile, ability to effectively select books for young readers based on their age, interest, and established reading habits, and competency in working with computer point of sale systems.
  • 1-2 years work experience in bookstores or other retail preferred.
