The 2012 New Voices Committee rounded out its hard work for the year by reading more than 90 fall-release titles by first-time authors. Committee members read, voted on, and selected 12 noteworthy and exciting debuts publishing between July 1, 2012, and the end of the year in two categories: Ages 8 - 12 and Teen.

A panel of booksellers and literacy group leaders at ABA’s Children’s Institute examined how booksellers can begin assessing the literacy needs of children in their communities, as well as efforts already underway to meet those needs, to arrive at a plan that helps ensure books and reading programs reach the children who need them most.

The secrets behind successful programs for children at several indie bookstores will be on display during the ABC Children’s Institute on Wednesday, June 6, at BookExpo America.

After months spent reading more than 80 titles by debut authors, booksellers on the New Voices Committee have selected their top  spring picks for children ages 8 - 12 and for teens, from titles published between January 1 and June 30, 2012.
