Here, Teicher reflects on his 30-plus years at ABA, the many colleagues and booksellers he has worked with over the years, and his thoughts about the future of bookselling.

The 2019 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community is given to an individual or organization for a lifetime of achievement in expanding the audience for books and reading.

For the upcoming membership year, the American Booksellers Association is inviting all member bookstores to renew their dues via an online form.

The winners, chosen by a committee of ABA bookseller judges, are Billie Bloebaum of Third Street Books for Bookstore Romance Day and Nicole Magistro of The Bookworm of Edwards for the Adopt-a-Reader program.

Campaign stories use the hashtag #BooksellersofAmerica and appear on dedicated Instagram and Facebook pages that anyone can follow.

In the second column of a new series from the ABA Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, River Dog Book Co. owner BrocheAroe Fabian looks at incorporating holidays into booksellers’ stores.

This new opportunity for booksellers unable to attend the entire conference grants access to the institute on Friday, January 24, as well as to the Author Reception on Thursday, January 23.

The American Booksellers Association’s homepage includes a “Bookstore Showcase” section that highlights independent bookstore members, as well as a feature to show off the unique shelf-talkers sent in by member stores.

Booksellers whose plans have changed are asked to tell ABA; those who do so by this Friday will have their money refunded.

Registered booksellers whose plans have changed are asked to notify ABA as soon as possible so waiting booksellers can be offered a chance to attend.

On October 31, Oren Teicher will finish his term as CEO of ABA and Joy Dallanegra-Sanger will step into her role as chief operating officer and senior-most member of staff.
