The Book Sense Autographing Schedule

Continuing the success of past years' Book Sense Autographing sessions, the ABA/Book Sense Lounge (Room 1E 07-08 at the Javits Center) will be the place to go for autographed books from some of independent booksellers' favorite authors. On Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4, at BEA, authors whose works have appeared on the Book Sense Picks lists will be available to sign their books and meet booksellers.

Wanted: Teams of Booksellers for the Bee at BEA

There is still time for teams of booksellers to sign up for the BookSense.com/American Heritage Dictionaries Spelling Bee at BookExpo America. The event, to be held from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, in Room 1B 02-03-04 of the Javits Center, will be hosted by acclaimed author Myla Goldberg, whose novel Bee Season (Anchor) was a Book Sense Book of the Year finalist in 2001.

ABA's BEA Lounge to Feature Hyperion/Miramax Cafe & Republic of Tea

The ABA/Book Sense Lounge, Room 1E 07-08 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, will offer a respite from the BookExpo America show floor for weary booksellers. In addition to being a place where they can kick back, relax, and check e-mail, the lounge will offer booksellers information about ABA/Book Sense products and services and a place to meet with ABA staff and with representatives of ABA's affinity programs. A welcome addition to the light refreshments offered in the lounge this year will be select teas from Republic of Tea.

ABA Seeks Bookseller Input for 'Innovative Events' Session

The American Booksellers Association is seeking member input for its BookExpo America "All-Day Education Program" session "The Bookstore as a Third Place: Making Your Store a Community Center Through Innovative Events." The event, which will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and again at 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m., on Thursday, June 2, will focus on creating events to position the bookstore as a center for community and political action.

Bill Maher BEA Event Expected to Sell Out

Tickets for this year's BookExpo America Book Industry Foundation Benefit starring comedian Bill Maher may sell out before the June 2 - 5 trade show, according to Tina Jordan, the show's public relations/special events director. This would be a first for BEA's annual Saturday night event, which benefits the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression and the Association of American Publishers Get Caught Reading Campaign.

During the week of May 9, ABA will be sending all member booksellers registered for BookExpo America a special mailing about this year's convention and trade show. The envelope bearing the sticker, "Important BEA Info: Please direct to appropriate BEA attendee," includes a letter from ABA President Mitchell Kaplan of Books & Books in Coral Gables Florida; an ABA Program booklet; a shuttle bus schedule; invitations to ABA/Book Sense special events; and much more.
