Booksellers at stores that did not have an ABC Children’s Institute scholarship winner in 2018 or 2019 can now apply for a scholarship to the 2020 Children’s Institute in Tucson, Arizona.

Booksellers began registering at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 18; a waitlist has begun as the event has reached capacity.

Each quarter, two or more books in different romance subgenres will be selected; discussions will take place in August, November, February, and May.

Booksellers will attend a panel discussion on the growing monopoly power in the retailing and tech sector and meet with lawmakers to discuss issues impacting their businesses.

Sidekick, Busboys and Poets, Auburn Oil Co. to open; Commonplace Reader, Paper Boat now open; Murphy’s to stay open; Quail Ridge to celebrate 35th; New owners for Linden Tree Books; Jeff and Julie Kinney buy site across from Unlikely Story; Ellen Ourada of Wild Rumpus to retire; Boogie Down to provide books to incarcerated teens; Lexie Bean recipient of Bookshop Santa Cruz Writing Residency; Casa Camino Real, Gramercy, Second Star to the Right host events; Hideaway on list of Utah bookstores; Cornell University newspaper promotes shopping at indies. 

Booksellers should be ready to register for the event at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 18, as it always sells out quickly.

At this fall’s regional trade shows, booksellers can sign up for one-on-one meetings with IndieCommerce staff to discuss the IndieCommerce and IndieLite e-commerce platforms.
