Elizabeth Acevedo, the New York Times bestselling author of The Poet X and With the Fire on High, spoke about the true meaning of being “well-read” at the seventh annual Children’s Institute. 

Member stores that have not attended ABA’s Winter Institute in the past seven years are eligible for a scholarship to the 2020 event.

Booksellers gathered to share ideas and discuss the issue of diversity in booksellers’ stores and communities. 

The city of Pittsburgh welcomed 330 children’s booksellers from 230 indie bookstores, 70 authors, and numerous publishers and bookselling friends this week for the 2019 ABC Children’s Institute.

In addition to her keynote, Patchett attended Children’s Institute to promote her very first children’s book, Lambslide.

The author received a plaque in appreciation of his support of independent bookstores through his annual Holiday Bookstore Bonus program and other initiatives.

For its next issue, Bookselling This Week will be reporting from the seventh annual Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

ABA staff are putting the finishing touches on their costumes for the second Ci7 Welcome Reception and Costume Party, which all booksellers are encouraged to attend. 

OASIS helps high-need children in first through fourth grades learn to read at grade level with the help of volunteer adults over age 50.

The event will provide booksellers with the opportunity to express their opinions and concerns and to share ideas with ABA Board members and staff in a less formal setting.
