Although the physical campaign is on hold until 2021, booksellers can access videos, activities, and social media posts to celebrate the 2020 event virtually.

Although the physical campaign is on hold, Candlewick and the American Booksellers Association are working together to create a turnkey digital Waldo scavenger hunt for independent bookstores to host this summer.

The March 20 ad highlighted six ways to help keep neighborhood shops in business through the coronavirus outbreak.

The campaign, which runs the entire month of July, brings together small business communities across the nation in hosting scavenger hunts for the striped and bespectacled picture book character. 

In celebration of the store’s third anniversary, Midtown Reader in Tallahassee, Florida, partnered with a local production company to create a short video called “Ask Alexis.”

The D.C. Council’s Committee heard testimony from small business owners and small business advocates who spoke to issues including the rising cost of rent and property taxes, the lack of small commercial spaces available for small businesses, and consumers’ shift to large chain retailors and online shopping.

The second annual Love Your Bookstore Challenge is currently in progress and will last until Friday, November 17.
