Webinar Sign-Up, Holiday Catalogs, and the Return of Advanced Search

October 28, 2015

All About Webinars

The webinar, Introduction to Taxonomy and Views, will be held on Wednesday, November 4, from 2 to 3:30 EST. A 60-minute presentation will be followed by a 30 minute Q & A.

This webinar will cover the basics of Drupal Taxonomy—the way it organizes data into categories and subcategories—with a focus on creating taxonomy for the “event” content type. We will also present an introduction to Drupal Views, including a look at the Views interface, how to edit an existing View, how to customize the “event” View with color-coding, and how to filter using taxonomy.

Register for the 11/4/15 webinar here.

For recordings of past webinars please visit the IndieCommerce Webinar Center on BookWeb.org. Feedback has been very good; your colleagues have said the webinars were “instructive and thorough,” and taught “new tricks we hadn’t had time to explore.”

If you have an idea for a future webinar please email [email protected]. All suggestions will be considered!

It’s That Time of Year

The IndieCommerce team encourages all the regional associations to upload their holiday catalogs as soon as possible! To do so, follow the instructions here: http://www.bookweb.org/indiecommerce/providing-your-holiday-catalog-indiecommerce

The SIBA catalog is already up, and SIBA stores can link to it by creating a URL like this: <site-url>/holiday/SIBA/index.html.

For example, the Quinn Bookshop would use this URL: http://www.quinnbookshop.com/holiday/SIBA/index.html

Members wishing to link to their holiday catalog will find instructions here: http://www.bookweb.org/indiecommerce/add-holiday-catalog-your-website

Advanced Search to Return on November 3

Many stores requested a return of the advanced search feature found in Drupal 6. Beginning Tuesday, November 3, advanced search will be enabled automatically for all sites. If you’d like to create a link to it from a menu on your home page, link to “/search/advanced_search.” If you do not want advanced search on your site, please let us know and we can disable the module on your site.

With advanced search, your customers will be able to locate books by a wide range of attributes, including publisher, price, age range, publication date, availability, and more. In total, about 25 different attributes will be searchable.

Administrators can filter advanced search by additional criteria, including Ingram discount codes and Ingram Demand (also called “Ingram Desire.”)
