IndieCommerce Fraud Alerts

As online holiday sales volume has increased, so have reports of online fraud. Over the past week, two stores have contacted IndieCommerce about fraudulent purchases using stolen credit card numbers. We checked the email addresses that were used for these two purchases and found 7 other orders on IndieCommerce sites that were also fraudulent, but had not been detected. All of the stores that were affected have been notified.

In all of these cases, the shipping address and the billing address for credit card were different. The IndieCommerce system will automatically display a warning when the billing and shipping address do not match. The system will also display a link to a page with additional instructions. We also noticed that the email, addresses being used were for businesses and not individuals.

All of these fraud purchases were for amounts under $40, so they did not stand out when the orders were being processed. If you suspect a fraudulent online order, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
