The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
As California residents likely visit your website, we want remind you that the CCPA was signed into law by California Governor Jerry Brown in June 2018; it will go into effect January 1, 2020. This is similar to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your business needs to comply with CCPA rules only if one of the following apply:
The business must generate annual gross revenue in excess of $25 million,
The business must receive or share personal information of more than 50,000 California residents annually, or
The business must derive at least 50 percent of its annual revenue by selling the personal information of California residents.

Reporting Online Fraud Orders
We’ve seen an uptick in fraud orders this year. If you suspect a fraud order on your website, pleasedon’t hesitate to contact us; we’ll be happy to review it with you. Reporting potentially fraudulent orders allows us to search the entire IndieCommerce network for similar orders and stop them before they are processed.
If an order you have shipped turns out to be fraudulent, you can report it to the FBI or contact the authorities in the city or town where the “ship to” address in the order was located.
In recent months, we’ve seen a new scam that involves eBay. The scammer creates an eBay auction listing for a book, selling it at a fraction of the retail price, then fulfills the sale by placing a fraudulent order with an ABA member store, using a stolen credit card number and the “ship to” address of the customer who won the eBay auction.
If you are contacted by a customer from eBay who is questioning why your store sent them a book, ask them for the eBay seller’s ID. You can then report them to eBay or e-mail details to firstname.lastname@example.org, who will contact them on your behalf.
