The E-Commerce Newsletter For Booksellers           May 16, 2019

Meet Us in NYC at BookExpo for a One-on-One
Booksellers are encouraged to register to meet one-on-one with members of the IndieCommerce staff during the 2019 BookExpo in NYC to discuss or learn about IndieCommerce and IndieLite, the American Booksellers Association’s e-commerce platforms for indie bookstores.

BookExpo will be held May 29–31 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. All
one-on-one sessions will be held in the ABA Member Lounge, which is located in Booth 2962, and are open to current IndieCommerce and IndieLite members as well as non-members.

Booksellers can use this form to sign up and reserve a time slot. The form also allows booksellers to state what topics they would like to discuss, which the IndieCommerce team will be ready to address at the meeting.

Managing Recurring Events on IndieCommerce
You can now add recurring events to your IndieCommerce site. For example, if you have a story time that occurs regularly, or a weekly book club, you can now easily add those to your site using one of the two options detailed here. One option allows you to create a new content type and list these events separately from your default calendar. The other, modifies your existing event content type to allow multiple date entries. A detailed video tutorial is available here. Questions? Email [email protected]

A New Automated E-Newsletter Service For IndieCommerce/IndieLite Stores
By Liz Button
ABA's IndieCommerce team has announced that ABA members with websites hosted by IndieCommerce or IndieLite will be eligible to offer the new, free, automated e-newsletter service launching in June.

According to IndieCommerce staff, e-mail newsletters are one of the most effective ways to drive sales to your website and your bookstore. This free automated e-mail newsletter service for IndieCommerce and IndieLite stores only will send five customized newsletters to stores’ email lists, each of which will include the store’s logo and general store information.

The five newsletters include two for Summer Reading Groups, two for Winter Reading Groups, and one Holiday Gift Guide; each will contain 20 or more reviewed titles. Bookstores that sign up for this new e-newsletter service will also have access to online reports that track customer engagement. The newsletters will be sent on the following dates:

  • Summer Reading Groups: June 20, 2019 and August 15, 2019

  • Winter Reading Groups: November 14, 2019 and February 20, 2020

  • Holiday Gift Guide: November 21, 2019

Booksellers from IndieCommerce or IndieLite stores who would like to take advantage of this new feature can create their free account any time before the June 6, 2019 sign-up deadline. The IndieCommerce team has seen positive results after testing this new service with 15 online bookshops over the past year; many reported increased in-store and online sales for the featured titles.

The 15 participating IndieCommerce and IndieLite stores have sent e-newsletters to more than 110,000 customers so far; here are examples from two stores that participated in last year's trial period: BookPeople in Austin, Texas, and Weller Book Works in Salt Lake City, Utah.

IndieCommerce is working with Matchbook Marketing on this project; booksellers who are interested can e-mail Matchbook’s Gwyn Ridenhour or contact IndieCommerce support to learn more. IndieCommerce/IndlieLite booksellers can sign up for the new service here.
