Menus

A website navigation menu is a collection of links grouped together in a horizontal or vertical block. Menus are usually at the top of a website; menus can be added to the footer and side navigational bars as well.

Organized and easy-to-follow navigation for a website is very important for the overall user experience. When planning your menu, it’s important to keep in mind the information your users need to access quickly and frequently, and make those items clearly identifiable and accessible.

Staff Reviews

Staff reviews can be added to the product pages of individual titles by either submitting a form, or using the provided check box on a book list. This field can also be used to enter information such as a book video, sale information, etc. Preorder Badges can be displayed on titles that are 'Coming Soon'.

Blocks

Blocks are the boxes of content (such as "Find a Wishlist" or "IndieBound Next List") that can be displayed in regions (such as header or sidebar) and be set to display on all or specific pages. Blocks can be composed of text, images, links, and other standard HTML. They can also be used to embed codes for widgets from outside sources like YouTube or Facebook.

Custom Content Types

CREATING CUSTOM CONTENT TYPES

When you create content on your website, each item of content is categorized by a specific content type. The websites we provide are Drupal based and come with several standard content types (page, book page, event, etc.), with each content type containing the information and settings that make it suited for a specific purpose. At times, you may want to create entirely new content types for purposes specific to your store needs.

Store Features and Preferences

This documentation has been updated as of 9/30/2021 to reflect the layout changes we have made to the Store Preferences page and to include new settings that we have added.

Discount Coupons

Since there are so many different configuration options for coupon codes, it is easiest to explore this feature using examples.  The following examples are provided solely as illustrations of the coupon code functionality and are in no way recommendations.  We do not suggest what promotions or discounts any store should offer. Those business decisions are made solely by each individual bookstore.

ABA does not recommend specific rates for shipping, and any value indicated below is simply for the purposes of illustration.

Website Security Tips

All IndieCommerce sites are PCI Compliant, and credit card information is safely encrypted using an SSL Certificate.  No credit card data is ever stored on our servers, and is instead  stored securely by one of the most trusted payment gateways on the web, Authorize.net.

That said, from time to time, stores might unknowingly engage in activity that can endanger their PCI Compliance. Please follow these tips to help ensure the security and compliance of your site.

Store Roles

This documentation was modified on 4/19/2019 to include the updated features to help stores better manage staff and customer roles.

NEW: Store Admins are now able to edit customer accounts, Store Editor accounts, and Order Admin accounts.

STORE ROLES

Have the user create an account on your website, make sure they take note of the email address used to sign up.

Constant Contact

This documentation was modified on 12/15/2017, to comply with the latest changes by Constant Contact.

Embed your Constant Contact signup form into your website to allow customers to easily sign up for newsletters, coupons, event notifications, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you have pasted the ‘Embed Code’ and saved, editing the block will strip the code. Therefore we recommend you save the code to a plain text (Notepad) file, in case you need it again.

Embedding Code

Embedding code into your website is usually fairly simple. However, we highly recommend you save a copy of the code locally as a TXT file (Notepad) so that you have it saved for future use.

Once you have obtained the embed code from its source (YouTube, Google Maps, Twitter, EventBrite etc.), you will follow the steps below to add it to your page or block.

Fraudulent Orders

This documentation was modified on 11/12/2020.

Unfortunately, the Internet is not always a safe place, and fraudulent orders are becoming increasingly common.  Here are some red flags to watch out for, as well as simple steps you can take to verify suspicious orders.

Domains 101

While ABA does provide DNS hosting for our IndieCommerce sites, some stores do host with different companies.  It is important to note that ABA does not register domain names, and in order to keep your web address, you will need to renew your domain when the time comes.

Renew your domain name when alerted, and know how to access your registrar account.
If Possible, set your domain to auto-renew to reduce the risk of accidentally letting it expire.
Ensure that contact information stays up to date with your registrar so you receive any important communications.
