Error Page

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

You may create custom error pages for a 403 error (access denied) or a 404 error (page not found).

By default, the pages for each of those messages state:

Access Denied
You are not authorized to access this page.

Page Not Found
The requested page "/cake" could not be found.

To create a custom error page for either of those errors you will begin by creating a new page. If you’re not familiar with creating pages you can find the instructions here or you can watch our training video.

Example content for an ‘Access Denied’ page:

Sorry, you're not able to access the page you requested.
Some pages are restricted to registered users only, so if you're not logged in, please log in to access this page.
If you don't yet have an account with us you're welcome to register. If you are logged in and you think this message is an error, please contact us.

Example content for a ‘Page Not Found’ page:

We’re sorry the page you’re looking for cannot be found. This could be due to one of the following reasons:

An internal error occurred
A URL was incorrectly entered
The page you’re looking for no longer exists or has moved

You may return to our front page, use the links at the top of this page to navigate elsewhere, or use the search box on the left.

If you feel this is a mistake please contact us.

When you have completed creating your new error page(s) you can set it to appear as the default page:

Navigate to: Configuration > System > Site Information

  1. Complete the corresponding path field under ‘Error Pages’ - this should be the path to the new page(s) you created.
  2. Save configuration
