USPS Realtime Shipping Estimate

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version
If you have an USPS account for your store, you integrate your IndieCommerce website with your USPS account to retrieve shipping quotes in real time when customers go through checkout on your site. This integration will add these 3 new shipping rates to your website - Priority Mail, Express Mail, and Media Mail through USPS. By connecting directly to USPS Webtools, the quotes for these rates will be based on product weights and will adjust based on the total weight of the package.

These new rates will have the USPS logo next to them which is the best way to distinguish them from your other shipping rates. Once these rates are enabled, it is best practice to disable similar flat rates from your shipping quotes.

Media Mail Parcel will only be available if the order is eligible for Media Mail. Books that are added by IndieCommerce to your website will have a flag for Media Mail eligibility, and is checked automatically. If you have store merchandise on your website, please make sure this Media Mail option is configured to not appear for orders containing store merchandise.

The accuracy of these shipping quotes depend on the accuracy of the ‘weight’ for books and other store merchandise. If any item in an order does not have the weight defined, these options will not be available.

Orders that have these shipping options will also be eligible for Ingram Customer Direct Fulfillment (CDF) from your IndieCommerce site

In order to use this feature, your store must have a USPS Webtools account. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to create one on the USPS Website.

Once you have created an account, or if you already have a Webtools Account, you can request this feature by navigating to Store > Configuration > Account Information & Preferences > Store Features and selecting the U.S. Postal Service feature.
