Results of the 2004 ABA Board of Directors elections, which concluded on May 5, were recently certified by the association's election inspector, KPMG. Candidates chosen by ABA bookstore members to serve as directors, with terms ending in 2007, were Carla Jimenez of Inkwood Books in Tampa, Florida; Cathy Langer of Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver; and Linda Ramsdell of Galaxy Bookshop in Hardwick, Vermont. Jimenez is currently a member of the ABA Board.

Membership also ratified the Board's selection of Mitchell Kaplan, owner of Books & Books in Coral Gables and Miami, Florida, as ABA president and Suzanne Staubach of UConn Co-op in Storrs, Connecticut, as ABA vice president/secretary for one-year terms beginning in June 2004. Kaplan, who currently serves as vice president/secretary, will succeed Ann Christophersen, co-owner of Chicago's Women & Children First, who is at the end of her second term as president.

Kaplan established Books & Books in 1982 in Coral Gables; his second store opened in 1989 in Miami. He is also a founder and the chairperson of the Miami Book Fair International.

Staubach is in the middle of her second three-year term as a Board director. A bookseller for 22 years, she is manager of the General Books Division of the UConn Co-op, and is a past president of the New England Booksellers Association and the Connecticut Center for the Book.

Cathy Langer began her career in bookselling at the Tattered Cover in 1977. She has served as president of the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Association and as president of the Colorado Center for the Book.

Linda Ramsdell opened The Galaxy Bookshop in 1988. In 2003, she opened a satellite store, Stardust Books, in Craftsbury, Vermont. Ramsdell has served the New England Booksellers Association in a number of capacities and was its president from 2001 to 2003.

Ending their terms on the ABA Board are Christophersen and John Bennett of Bennett Books in Wyckoff, New Jersey.

Other directors on the nine-member ABA Board are Neal Coonerty of Bookshop Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, California; Russ Lawrence of Chapter One Book Store in Hamilton, Montana; Karl Pohrt of Shaman Drum Bookshop in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Gayle Shanks of Changing Hands in Tempe, Arizona.
